A beautiful post from Love Bagni di Lucca.
Winter in Lucca and the surrounding areas is stunning which as you know is partly why many of the i love Lucca tours are in this period.
Why not spend a week or so investigating the villages in the Bagni di Lucca area?
Hope you are all having a happy new year and don’t forget to check in the next few days for the NEW TOUR DATES and the Writers Tour with Ivan Miller, a NZ memoirist.

I shall stop blathering now and let you enjoy Joanna’s Fantastic post…….
The lovely Agriturismo La Stalla di Guzzano, in Guzzano village, Bagni di Lucca has one holiday rental apartment within it.
Here are some of the photos of Il Fienile and the surrounding area, taken in Autumn and Winter.
Il Fienile is available for rent all year round with lots to see and do at this time of year here are some photos of the property and the area.
To find out more about the property simply contact us.
You can see the grapes on our vines ready for harvest in Autumn.
You can collect them to eat with a glass of wine and a cheese board of local Tuscan cheeses, they are just wonderful.
Our particular favourite is the sweet fragolino grape, which has a slight strawberry after taste when you eat it.
These are also collected for making wine with the locals in the village.
You can even help with the grape collection harvest as part of your stay if you want to.
Watching the grapes being turned into local wine, using the old oak barrels and traditional wine making process, adds a little something special to your Tuscan break.
The views from the property are lovely in Autumn and Winter. Here are a small selection of the photos taken by our previous clients. They are lovely and I wanted to share them with you, so you can get a real feel for the area this time of year.
Christie’s photo of a sunny Autumn view, was taken from the living room windows of Il Fienile at La Stalla di Guzzano
Stephanie’s Winter rose photo I loved too. Roses are my favourite flowers and so we have lots around the gardens.
This photo was taken of one of the roses growing outside the door of Il Fienile covered in snow.
Autumn is when we collect the Saffron flowers and produce our organic Saffron spice. You can see the Saffron being produced as part of your stay and sample some wonderful food made with our organic Saffron pistils.
Enjoy exploring the area in both Autumn and Winter, using the marked trails.
From Il Fienile all year round you can walk several easy to moderate circular walks.
These take you through many of the Bagni di Lucca villages and stunning Tuscan landscapes, as well as lovely Tuscan chestnut woods.
As you walk you can gather chestnuts for roasting over the fire when you get back. Lovely with a crisp glass of local strawberry wine.
We always go walking as we enjoy days out collecting and then cooking the Porcini mushrooms in Autumn.
These grow on our land around the property so are easy to find if you know where to look.
Mushrooming is one of our favourite family activities in Autumn, it is really great fun for familes and children of all ages who love looking for the mushrooms.
Why not try fresh porcini mushrooms and have a go at making some simple tasty pasta dishes with them. They are simply delicious.
The locals are really friendly and will make you feel part of the village during your stay.
You can get involved in village life if you wish while relaxing and enjoying your holiday.
Enjoy meeting the locals as well as their animals as you explore the village. Here is Massimo with one of his horses.
The local market twice weekly will give you the opportunity to sample fresh locally grown produce. Try some of our recipes from our recipe category.
Autumn and winter is olive collecting time you will see ourselves and other locals busy collecting our olives both to use as eating olives and for oil.
Autumn usually brings the odd egg hatched inside in our incubator or, an orphaned gosling that needs a bit of tender loving care.
The village children are often seen being taken around the village on a locals tractor. They make a great taxi service!
Il Fienile is set within the agriturismo La Stalla di Guzzano, here are some photos of the property and the rooms you will find within it.
Here’s the view taken by Christie during her stay from the living room window. She called it “the room with a view”
Winter wonderland at Il Fienile. The winter time here is magical. Lovely crisp winter days, some with snow in the evening you can relax around its roaring log fires cooking chestnuts or relaxing with a glass of wine.
Ah heaven!
A client once described Il Fienile as their perfect winter holiday property.
Children can play safely around the property and in the village.
They love to build snowmen, sledge and play in the winter snow
The trees around the property in Autumn, are full of kaki fruit as they call them in Italy.
Sometimes known as persimmon or Sharon fruits, they are an unusual fruit.
If you love the kaki fruit you can eat all you want!
